Vibrain: Device for Improving Attention Control of High-Altitude Mine Workers

Impact Area:
Health Technology

Researcher:
Dr. Alejandro Weinstein

Description:
Design of a device consisting of a wristband with a small vibrator motor, controlled to synchronize brainwaves with the vibration. This synchronization, known as entrainment, has positive effects on the user’s cognition.

Problem it solves:
The device helps mitigate the effects of fatigue, especially those related to geographic altitude. The decrease in oxygen concentration as altitude increases negatively impacts humans. One of these effects is fatigue, which degrades people’s performance in their various activities. This translates to lower efficiency in tasks performed, in extreme cases leading to accidents.
