This Wednesday, April 16th, the Artequin Viña del Mar Museum held the award ceremony for the school contest “Art and Science: My Favorite Insect,” an initiative organized in conjunction with the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AC3E, of the Federico Santa María Technical University. In 1 its sixteenth edition, the contest invited children and young people from different educational levels to visually represent the world of insects from a scientific perspective.
During the event, recognitions were given to the outstanding students, and the new Sea and Cinema Room was inaugurated, an interactive space that invites visitors to experiment with their senses and reflect on the marine environment.
One of the most moving moments was the speech by researcher Melissa Diago, an Electronic and Communications Engineer, academic of the Electronics Department at UTFSM, and member of the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E), who stated:
“Today we are here to celebrate something truly magical, which is the union between science and art. Because when you observe an insect with curiosity, you are doing science. A science that is not only read in books but is in each of your works that reminds us that nature is our great teacher.”
For his part, Cristóbal Pinto Irarrázaval, communications coordinator of the museum, highlighted the trajectory of the contest: “We want to continue awakening the artistic spirit and scientific curiosity with this contest that is as old as the museum itself and is already a tradition that strengthens the bond between the Federico Santa María Technical University and the Artequin Viña del Mar Museum.”
The museum, located in Quinta Vergara Park, has already announced that it will soon open the call for a new edition of the contest, reaffirming its commitment to a comprehensive, playful education that is committed to caring for the environment.
The event culminated with an invitation to tour the new room and share a moment of gathering with families, teachers, and teams from both organizing spaces.
