Microgrid control expert joins AC3E team

On May 1, Civil Electrical Engineer Constanza Ahumada joined the research team of the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering’s (AC3E) Control and Automation line, which aims to find scientifically based solutions to problems related to the operation, operability, and communication of industrial systems. Researchers are identifying and analyzing processes, instruments, and control-oriented technologies.

Dr. Ahumada’s research focuses on the control of microgrids in ports, airports, and rural areas, the electromechanical interaction between electrical power systems and the mechanical transmission of machines, the control of active magnetic bearings, and the application of control strategies to reduce torsional and lateral vibrations.

She has researched these topics at Universidad de Chile and University of Nottingham, where she also participated in the European Union’s multidisciplinary INNOVATE project.

Dr. Ahumada is also an academic at the Department of Electronics at Universidad de Chile. Research director Dr. Héctor Ramírez invited her to AC3E because of her career and performance. Her inclusion also reinforces one of the Center’s main objectives, which is to include more women, who are still underrepresented
