UTSFM Center will feature in episode of national broadcaster’s popular science show

Using electrical and electronic engineering to create solutions that have a positive impact on society is one objective of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María’s Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E).

The Center was created in 2014 and hosts a multidisciplinary team of more than 100 academics and researchers from eight national universities, including engineers, and undergraduate and graduate students.

To publicize some of the projects developed and their impact on society, the Center will feature in an episode of the scientific program Exploradores del Átomo al Cosmos, produced by public broadcaster TVN’s 24 Horas channel.

AC3E director Dr. Matías Zañartu will talk with host Nicolás Vial about humanoid robot iCub, a research platform with numerous sensors that enable the robot, through algorithms, to learn, just like humans.

In addition, they will discuss how the Center contributes to the creation of technology to decipher the great mysteries of the brain, and thus help in the diagnosis and/or treatment of mental illnesses. Finally, they will delve into BRAIN, a real-time control platform that can be used in a wide range of industries, reducing costs and environmental damage.
