With the aim of collaborating in education and research and contributing to cultural development and scientific progress, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María signed an agreement with Chilean software company Synopsys, reaffirming an established relationship related to microelectronics projects.
The agreement was promoted by the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E) and is based on the principles of cooperation through the exchange of information and materials in areas of mutual interest, as well as the exchange of scholars and students on an equal basis and cooperation with third party organizations. It is based on common interests, international education, stimulation of research and other networks, as well as equipment and server donations, and access to high-value licenses.
Dean Juan Yuz, who announced the alliance, said it represented “another milestone in the long-standing relationship between Synopsys and USM.” He said he was happy to “see how this relationship has become more sophisticated and has grown.”
Synopsys CEO Victor Grimblatt added, “this is the moment to formalize a relationship that has been cultivated for years and that allows the development of the country, the university and our projects. It fills me with pride and satisfaction to sign an agreement with the university of which I am an alumnus.”
He also emphasized that the agreement will “open the door for young Chileans to the world of cutting-edge technology and research in microelectronics, which is the most relevant today”.
AC3E Director Dr. Matías Zañartu, who also worked on the formalization of this agreement, said, “Synopsys began to provide scholarships with the interest of generating capabilities to electronics students who were at our center. In turn, we defined strategic funds to support this initiative, and to create more work force within AC3E. We are also developing niches within our specialty to strengthen this toward the future.”
