A new version of the Summer School in Computational Intelligence (EVIC) was held between December 11th and 13th. This version was organized by the University of Concepción and sponsored by the Chilean Chapter IEEE-CIS and the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AC3E, with collaboration from Nokia Bell Labs and CENIA.
This activity brought together undergraduate and graduate students, academics, and industry professionals, with the aim of promoting the fundamentals, applications, and recent advances in Computational Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science.
“Students from 9 universities came, all actively participated in the activities, and we are very happy and motivated by that. We managed to have a good group of speakers and tutorials that covered different topics of Computational Intelligence, providing interesting content for the attendees,” said Dr. Pamela Guevara, a senior researcher in the Biomedical Systems group at AC3E, who participated in this version of EVIC.
Topics related to AI and its various application areas were addressed, with talks by notable experts, discussions, and a poster session on biomedical, astronomy, and forestry industry applications.
“We realized how important it is to have this type of event in the regions, with high-level panelists and speakers and, above all, with a very good disposition to teach and share their experiences. This was highly valued by the students, as they were able to ask questions and interact with all the speakers and learn from their different disciplines or areas of application,” concluded the researcher.
