Schoolchildren visit AC3E facilities as part of the UTFSM Technology Academies

On September 2, about 40 schoolchildren from three schools in the region visited the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E) as part of the Technology Academies (ACATEC) project developed by the Department of Electronics of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), which aims to generate experiences for 4th graders related to the use of technology and encourage curiosity and learning.

They learned about the Center’s main research areas and projects, such as a mechanical respirator, the automation of the first electric car in Chile, a Renault Twizy, prognostics, the methodology for estimating the remaining useful life of assets, humanoid robot iCub, demonstrations of tests in the health laboratory and the PCB laboratory. A visit was guided by postdoctoral researchers and students from the Development Unit.

Teachers from each school and the ACATEC coordinators appreciated the day, the dedication with which the team explained and shared each project and the willingness to answer the children’s questions, which reflected attention and curiosity.

Such activities are very important for AC3E, since they allow showcasing current projects and contribute to sparking the interest of children and young people in science and engineering, who in the future may be the protagonists of technological development that will positively impact society.
