During Engineering Day hosted by Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia on May 26, the director of the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E), Dr. Matías Zañartu, addressed current challenges.
Dr. Zañartu talked about the role of engineering in development agency ANID’s basal centers of excellence. “The basal centers seek to link academia, which has an important history of success, with companies and thus join efforts to lead to a knowledge-based economy,” Dr. Zañartu told an audience including deans, academics, and students.
He spoke about the history of the basal centers, their members, lines of research and areas of impact that link the scientific and technological work carried out with industrial players. AC3E creates a space for collaboration to address challenges in electronics, biomedicine, acoustics, robotics, and other disciplines. In this way, AC3E promotes interaction and connection with the needs of society, a large part of which can be met by engineering.
Through his work, Dr. Zañartu carries enormous ethical responsibility to develop socially useful technologies and keep pace with accelerated technological transformation to reduce the risk of exclusion.
The university recognized the contributions of staff and faculty to the education of engineering professionals.
