Biomedical Civil Engineering Students from the University of Valparaíso Visited AC3E.

On Thursday, April 18th, 33 fourth-year Biomedical Civil Engineering students from the University of Valparaíso visited the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AC3E, to learn firsthand about health projects and innovations developed in the region.

First, Dr. Matías Zañartu, director of AC3E, gave a presentation where he spoke about the Center’s history and the different technological projects and devices that have been developed in the field of health, where multidisciplinary work has been carried out between engineering and medicine to address them.

“The objective of our career is to train professionals who integrate knowledge from science, engineering, and health in their work, in the search to provide solutions that positively impact people’s health, and in that sense, the actions carried out by the center are in line with that objective,” highlighted Viviana Silva, director of CESFAM El Olivar and professor of Biomedical Civil Engineering at UV.

To learn in depth about the different projects that the Center develops in health, they took a guided tour of the laboratories, which was led by Dr. Matías Zañartu and Alejandro Bertin, engineer from the Development Unit. With them, they visited the Health Laboratory, where the silent chambers are located and research is carried out around the voice, and then they continued in the Development Laboratory where they could see the DOI projects, a postural seat for children with disabilities, the mechanical respirator created in the context of Covid, among others.

“AC3E has one of its development areas focused specifically on health technologies, which has as its main objective to generate solutions, based on research, that allow supporting the health industry in our country, which is strongly linked to what is being developed in the career where we seek that our students and graduates improve the quality of life of people by applying knowledge of management, innovation and integration of various disciplines, that allow managing or undertaking projects, with a sustainable performance over time, in the field of health,” concluded Viviana Silva.
