AC3E Researchers Invited to Present Plenaries at Important International Conference

Researchers from the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AC3E, Dr. José Rodríguez and Dr. Samir Kouro were invited to present in 2 of the 4 plenary keynotes at the 13th International Conference Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2024) of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), held between June 10th and 13th in Nottingham, UK.

The event brings together specialists from the academic world and industry to share knowledge and identify collaboration opportunities for the development of engineering solutions for the electric revolution.

In his presentation, Dr. Kouro presented the advances and challenges of the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, specifically on ultra-fast and efficient chargers, and how they can in the future provide services for electrical grids in situations where vehicles remain parked for a long time. He also addressed new topics related to wireless charging and charging through robotic battery swapping.

“It is a true honor to be invited to give a plenary talk at an international conference like this and represent the Chilean scientific community. This is a recognition of the excellent work we do at AC3E, which reaches international standards. There was a lot of attendance and interest from the audience, as it is a relevant topic in the field of electromobility,” highlighted the academic.

Another plenary talk at the conference was given by researcher Dr. José Rodríguez, on the latest advances in Predictive Control in energy transition applications. The scientist addressed revolutionary contributions that even allow systems to be controlled and operated without pre-established models, and that the control system adapts and can learn on the fly. This opens up a world of possibilities to make energy control systems smarter and enable new solutions to sector problems. Both presentations captured great interest from attendees, which allows not only to position the Center, but to make visible the research work that is carried out in it.

Additionally, AC3E Doctoral student Diego Concha presented a paper on his green hydrogen production project from wind energy, of which Professor Kouro is co-guide and which is co-executed with the Laplace institute of the University of Toulouse in France, and the European Institute for Energy Research (EIFER) of Germany.
