From January 2025 and for three years, Dr. Samir Kouro, a member of the USM Department of Electronics and researcher at the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronics Engineering, AC3E, will serve as Chief Editor of the scientific journal IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine, of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.
For the researcher, this appointment is both an honor and a great challenge, because of the responsibility of leading one of the most influential journals within Industrial Electronics. “I take it both as a recognition of my contributions to this journal as author of several articles since 2008, as well as the volunteer work I have had in various roles within the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society in the last decade,” said Dr. Samir Kouro.
This journal publishes peer-reviewed articles that present emerging trends and practices in industrial electronics research and product development and is among the highest impact factor publications in the area of electrical engineering and electronics in the world.
Dr. Kouro is a Fellow of the IEEE and received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM). During his outstanding career he has made great contributions to the development of topologies and control of power converters for the energy transition, an issue of great importance in economic and environmental matters at a global level.
His remarkable work has been cited in international journals and industrial patents, being a reference in the development of technologies for a sustainable industry, which recently elevated him to the rank of IEEE Fellow, the highest recognition granted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
“For my career it means a real platform, given that a position as Editor-in-Chief of such a prestigious journal gives you a lot of visibility, which directly impacts your work, the ability to attract talent, to generate international collaborative networks. Naturally my priority is to contribute to the development of the journal and through it to the knowledge and technology that it manages to concentrate, curate, and disseminate, but it will undoubtedly have an important impact on my career and even on AC3E, the Department of Electronics and the University”, concluded the researcher.
