Spin Off

At AC3E science and knowledge based companies emerge, with innovative ideas of great impact  and technological disruptions whose prtotypes are born from research conducted at the Center, and are now in the process of validation to go to market.

Sun & Play is a spin-off born from the research and development around energy harvesting. It produces small electronic devices that do not need to be recharged or connected to a power grid, that is, they are energy autonomous.

These devices collect energy from the environment for use and/or store it in advanced electronic circuits using mainly solar panels and supercapacitors. Their design also aims to maximize efficiency to ensure operation even in adverse use scenarios.

Thus, the purpose of Sun & Play is to transform the battery and electronic device industry where research and scientific/technological development efforts are combined with user- and market-centric innovation methodologies to create products that massively impact society.

The startup, founded by researchers Samir Kouro and Marcelo Pérez, already has a team with which the first products are being developed, and a business plan is designed. The plan would allow to raise the capital necessary to embark on the first lines of business.

Simbiotica was born from the interdisciplinary scientific collaboration between AC3E and the Clinical Hospital of the University of Chile, where doctors, engineers and researchers work together to apply the latest advances in Artificial Intelligence to medical specialty diagnosis.

Its objective is to create technological tools to strengthen medical practice and democratize access to specialty medicine. To do this, it works together with medical specialists to generate integrated solutions that complement their diagnostic capabilities and facilitate better use of resources in health systems, reducing waiting time and favoring an accurate and timely diagnosis.

One of its developments is AMIRA, an intelligent medical assistant for the ENT specialist. Applying Artificial Intelligence algorithms, it is currently able to assist the doctor in the diagnosis of 9 ear conditions with an accuracy of more than 90%. It also incorporates a tele-examination system, which allows doctors to examine their patients remotely.

The world’s health systems are evolving into new ways of doing things, and new technologies are key players enabling these changes. In this context, Lanek seeks to be an active player that generates solutions to the challenges these changes entail, in particular, creating high-tech medical devices for the monitoring, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and health conditions under this new paradigm.

Therefore, Lanek incorporates user and market research as key activities for innovation and the design of solutions that generate great impact on health systems, taking advantage of the Center’s advanced technological development. Research includes wearable or easy-to-operate devices that enable health outside the hospital and improve outpatient and remote diagnostic and monitoring capabilities, complementing the advances in telemedicine and digital health that are improving access to healthcare around the world and shaping these new ways of operating.

The startup, founded by researchers Matías Zañartu and Alejandro Weinstein, has an entrepreneurial team with which four products have already been developed that are in the stage of clinical validation. They seek to generate the first sales and obtain investment necessary to package and launch the devices in the market.
