The research line in Renewable Energy and Power Conversion includes academics and researchers from Federico Santa María Technical University, University of Chile, University of Concepción, Andrés Bello University, Los Andes University, and the University of Nottingham.
This line stands out for its strong focus on power converters and renewable energy systems, HVDC transmission, electromobility and energy storage. The group is part of a large international collaboration network in which projects, co-tutoring of postgraduate students, research visits and publications are developed jointly. Collaborators include Prof. Bin Wu (Canada), Prof. Mariusz Malinowski (Poland), Dr. Thierry Meynard (France), Prof. José I. León and Dr. Sergio Vasquez (Spain), Prof. Maryam Saeedifard (USA), Prof. Alex Huang (USA), Prof. Peter Lehn (Canada), and others.
Power converters and their control are key for mass penetration of renewable energy conversion systems, smart grids and electromobility. Researchers in this line develop new types of power converters and control systems to boost efficiency, reduce size and improve performance of these devices in various applications of great contemporary importance. Among them count fast chargers for electric vehicles, LED lighting, solid state transformers, solar inverters, HVDC systems, and others.
